As 6th Convocation of Sikkim University is scheduled to be held on 18th and 20th November, 2022 the University is approaching this academic event of great importance through a series of academic and cultural events organised as Convocation Week 2022.
Convocation is always a solemn academic event in the life of a student and a memory to cherish forever, to make it more memorable for the outgoing as well as continuing students Vice Chancellor Professor Avinash Khare proposed to organise it in the form of a Convocation Week where various cultural and academic events are scheduled to be organised for faculty and students throughout the week as we approach the main Convocation. It is for the first time that such an event is being organised by the University under the guidance of the Vice Chancellor.
Convocation Week 2022 is scheduled to be organised from 14th November, 2022 i.e. Monday till 17th November, 2022. The events scheduled to be organised include a Kavi Sammelan on 14th November to commence the festivities. It is for the first time that Sikkim University is organising such a literary event and poets of Hindi, Nepali, Bhutia, Limboo and Lepcha will be presenting their compositions. Sh M. L. Srivastava, IFS, Additional Chief Secretary cum PCCF (Head of Forest Forces) and ACS (Tourism and Civil Aviation) will be gracing the event as Chief Guest along with several other important members of the society.
Two faculty lectures will be organised on 15th November and 16th November respectively. Shri Prafulla Ketkar, Editor Organiser, New Delhi, an eminent scholar in the field of journalism, will be sharing his views on ‘Revisiting the idea of Swaraj for the Journey of Suraj’ with the august gathering. The lecture will be graced as Chief Guest by Hon’ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M.N. Sharma along with other eminent members of the society. Prof Himanshu Chaturvedi, Member Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi and Professor DDU Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, an eminent historian of repute, will be presenting his views on ‘Cultural Penetration of Colonialism and Bhartiya Response’ with the learned gathering and young scholars. The occasion will be graced as Chief Guest by Shri R. Telang, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department along with several other important members of the society.
A Cultural Evening will be organised on 17th November showcasing the folk culture of North East. Traditional Dance and Songs will be performed by the students of Sikkim University for the august gathering. Hon’ble Minister for Education Sh Kunga Nima Lepcha ji will grace the occasion as Chief Guest along with other important members of the society.
These four days series of academic and cultural events will then lead to the 6th Convocation of Sikkim University. Venue for all the events is Tourism Hall situated in the building of the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation at Metro Point. Timings for 14th, 15th and 17th are 3:30 PM to 5: 30 PM and for 16th November, 2022 timings are 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
